OK now I'm going to try and describe this as seriously as I can. As in many Latin parts of the world, cockfighting is generally regarded in Bali as an enjoyable pastime and wagering event. A particularly acute passion of men throughout the island seemed to be the raising and pampering of fighting cocks. These aggressive birds are truly one of the family! I've seen owners cry when their birds are killed in battle (and cry even harder when they win). In Katik Lantang on the outskirts of Ubud, this dad ended his workday like many other locals, continuously petting and preening and exercising his cock in front of the house til dark.
