THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC PROJECT

On one half of the Caribbean island of Hispañola (where Columbus set up his first city in the New World) lies the Dominican Republic (DR) – a swirling, twirling mix of color, beaches, merengue music, baseball, tropical fruit and harsh realities which typically accompany developing nations. I recently had the wonderful opportunity to spend a month there, in the company of a great friend working for the Peace Corps about halfway through her two years of service. This page will be a project constantly in flux, a venue for expression for those who have experienced the Dominican Republic and are desirous to communicate to others what it has to share and teach. Grab a mocha, spare a moment, read the essays, examine the art. Extricate yourself from your own reality to experience that of a people in another culture so close but so very far away.
