white staircase, Llanca, Spain back to EUROPE 2 gallery
outside my hotel room in Llanca, Spain, was a white building (in need of some paintwork) with a decrepit staircase and window. something about the simplicity of it struck me. perhaps i was imagining being imprisoned in that window for months on end. or maybe i wanted to slide down the handrail (without castrating myself on the brick cap at the bottom). either way the wear and tear from grubby hands was interesting. now since this shot was MOSTLY white, i had to compensate the exposure in my camera - and open up one stop more than the camera suggested. (the camera will always try to make every scene average gray. so if you shooting something white, you must overcompensate and open up a stop. if you're shooting something black, you must overcompensate and close down a stop.)
