although i'd like to think it's the jaguar or the crow, the cow may actually be my totem animal. i seem to gravitate toward them, and vice versa. here in the Italian Dolomites, the scenery is so dramatic, yet when it's distant it appears a bit flat. i wanted to get something going in the foreground to give it some dimensionality. with my wide-angle lens, i needed to be about a foot from this cow's nose to get him as big as i wanted him in the frame. my hiking-mates were waging whether i was going to get gored. a polarizing filter brings in the deep blue of the sky.
