The red headband and garb betrays the fact that this elder is a pilgrim from the eastern wildlands of Tibet. It was ten days after a specific full moon which heralded a holy feast celebration, and pilgrims had flooded the center of Lhasa for prayers and observances. This man, after he greeted me and sensed my curiosity, touched his forehead to mine as a blessing. I gave him the St. Christopher medallion in my camera bag which had been given to me, I figured the patron saint of travelers couldn't hurt his cause too much.
